Magic
When you’re little, everything is pure magic. The shadows in your bedroom become dreamlike landscapes; there’s always a hidden universe under the bed; the wardrobe is full of incredible characters; toys talk to us; with a bit of soil, an old tin and a few weeds we become top chefs.
The other day I heard someone say that magic, among other definitions, isn’t the process of performing a trick: magic is the emotion that the sleight of hand awakens.
That rabbits’ feet, crystals, stones, wooden wands… any object could have magical powers. You only had to believe it.
That magic is all around us, they said.
A friend asked me the other day at what point we stop believing in miracles, in extraordinary moments.
I have two magic objects: my lipstick and my cologne. A crimson lipstick and a little bottle of eau de cologne.
These two things make me feel I’m going to have an almost wonderful day. When I look at my reflection and see my red lips, when I smell my cologne… I feel like the Queen of the Seas. It’s a moment of joy. I don’t need much more. It’s as if with those ingredients alone you could cook up a perfect day.

As I write, I realise that the magic comes when I give myself a few seconds. I don’t put on make-up to please anyone; I don’t wear perfume to charm others. I do it so that I like myself, so that I enjoy my own scent. And that makes me happy.
Because giving myself a few minutes, hours or seconds is the best investment I can make.
Hooray for endorphins!
Find your magic.
Listen to the music that stops your heart and fills you with joy; dance or sing at the top of your voice in the shower to the songs that make you smile; put on the shoes that make you feel like a diva; jump in the puddles on a rainy day and get soaked while you channel Gene Kelly in “Singin’ in the Rain”.
There are so many things that create magic!
I invite you to look for that little piece of magic every day. At first it will be an exercise in awareness. Over time, it will become a habit.
And let’s fill the world with magic, endorphins, joy…
Why not?
The prize is you.
