Universal Children’s Day

20 November is an important day for children. It is Universal Children’s Day, which marks the adoption of the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention recognises a set of rights for all children, including rights relating to life, health and education, the right to play, to family life, to protection from violence and discrimination, and to have their views heard.

2019 will mark its 30th anniversary, a date on which world leaders will be able to commit to doing more for children, taking into account requests like the ones we can send them through UNICEF.

Today we have the perfect excuse to relax and enjoy ourselves, feeling a little closer to the child we have never stopped being: the one who is with us every day and lets us be more spontaneous, playful, curious, dreamy, free of malice and judgement, amazed by the present moment.

Some years ago I came across an animated short, “Alike”, by Daniel Martínez Lara and Rafa Cano Méndez. I’m bringing it back for the blog in the hope that it helps me remember that the universe is wonderful thanks to all the unique, unrepeatable beings who are part of it.
